Frequently Asked Questions

Product Questions:

Compared to a traditional chain drive bike, what are the advantages of a belt drive?

The biggest advantage is lower maintenance. You don’t have to tighten or lubricate a belt-drive, only occasionally clean the teeth of the belt out with a brush and soapy water.

Belt drives are also less noisy, produce a smoother ride, and are more efficient at high speeds.

Since there is no grease or lube required, they are lay less messy too!

You can read more details in our blog about this topic.

How do you attach the belt guard?

Does this bike have a freewheel rear hub?

The Belsize 16-inch Sports, 20-inch bike features a thread-on freewheel and hub. And 16-inch Pro features a cassette free hub.

Are your bikes available in additional colors?

For 16" Pro bikes, we offer cookies & cream and candy cotton.

For 20” bikes, we offer silver and mint green.

We don't offer any custom color options at this time, so all currently available colors are listed and regularly updated on the product pages.

We encourage kids to dress up their bikes with decals & stickers if they're looking for some extra flair!

How much do your bikes weigh?

Below are the weights for our bikes:
16 inch sports= 12.57 lbs
20 inch = 14.82 lbs

Can I add training wheels to the bikes?

Training wheels cannot be added to the Belsize bike. However, our bikes are so light that your child will feel more confident to ride without training wheels.

Read our full guide on why your kids should not be using training wheels here.

Can I put larger tires for mountain biking on my bike?

The max tire size you can add is a 16/20 x 1.75 in (for 16, 20-inch models, respectively). If it's any bigger the tire will rub against the brake cables.

We're using shorter brake arms on our bikes so that we can use a lever that's easier for your child to reach, so there isn't a lot of space to change tire size.

Can I use the bike offroad or on trails?

Belsize bikes are built like a sturdy, lightweight mountain bike. It should work great in offroad conditions. Please note that our tires, however, are not very suitable for muddy conditions.

What's the recommended tire pressure?

The recommended tire pressure for our bikes are as follows:
16" Bike - 35 - 45 PSI Min/ Max
20" Bike - 40 - 65 PSI Min/ Max

Do the bikes include a kickstand?

We offer the kickstand separately.

What type of valve is on the tires?

We use a Schrader valve on all of our bike tires.

Sizing Questions:

How can I know if this is the right size bike for my kids?

You can read our detailed sizing guide here.

How do I measure my child's inseam & why is it important?

Your child's inseam determines how far off the ground their heels will be while sitting on the Belsize Bike. This measurement adds more accuracy when determining the correct bike size.

Confident riders on 16 inch & 20 inch small bikes can be on their tippy-toes 2.5 inches, while less confident riders should be on their tippy-toes max 0.50 - 1.50 inches.

You can read our detailed sizing guide here.

Will you offer any additional sizes in the future?

Absolutely! We hope to offer many more sizes down the line. Feel free to sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know about the latest sizes and other product releases.

Bike Set-Up & Maintenance:

Can I raise the handlebars?

The handlebars aren't able to be raised because we are using what is called a threadless headset/stem.

The advantages of this are durability and safety because there are no threads that can come loose over time (hence the term "threadless”).

The disadvantage is the handlebars can't be raised super quick. The handlebars on the bike have a 1.5-inch rise (height of the handlebar).

You can use handlebar riser or extender to adjust to the height you want.

Orders & Shipping:

What's the difference between ordering through your website or Amazon?

On our website, we can offer bulk discounts while there is no extra offer for buying multiple bikes on Amazon.

Product quality, shipping time, and shipping options are the same between both sites.

Which shipping partner do you use?

We ship our bikes via USPS, FedEx or UPS. We can deliver to most zip codes in 3-5 business days.

Where do you ship to?

We are currently only shipping bikes in the 48 contiguous United States (not Alaska or Hawaii.)

Continental USA
Free Shipping - 3-5 business days once the order is placed.

International
We are currently not shipping bikes internationally. In the future, we plan to introduce Belsize bike in other countries. If you are interested in getting information on this, please sign up for the newsletter at the bottom of our website - https://belsizebike.com/

Do you ship to Hawaii & Alaska?

At this time, we only offer shipping to the contiguous 48 states. This is due to extreme shipping charges (about $250 for one of our 20" bikes) when sending our bikes over to Alaska or Hawaii.

Instead of passing that massive shipping cost to our customers, we are working on negotiating reduced shipping costs to make this feasible for future customers.

In the meantime, we would recommend checking out our bikes on Amazon, as they can typically offer reduced shipping costs to Hawaii and Alaska.

How long does it take to arrive?

All in-stock bikes typically arrive in 3-5 business days.

Please take some photos of the issue and email them to us at support@belsizebike.com. This helps our team diagnose the problem and decide on the next steps.

What is the Belsize Bikes Warranty Policy?

We are proud to offer a lifetime warranty on all frame manufacturing defects and a one-year warranty on all component defects.
